What is Peer to Peer Model of Ministry (P2P)

P2P is a curriculum developed by KSCF for high school students which focuses on four pillars namely: Bible study, Christian Peer counselling, Discipleship & Evangelism  and Leadership Development. The P2P strategy is a belief that the future Kenya is linked to building strong character in the youth. What we do with the youth today determines what our country become tomorrow. P2P seeks to empower and equip students to transform and influence their peers.


P2P is to assist KSCF achieve its overall vision of a generation of role model Christians having Godly values and playing an active role in Church and society.

How do we achieve this purpose?

ü  Empower Christian workers for effective service among the students.

P2P will run under the theme of “Equipped to Equip” from Ephesians 4:12-13. The purpose is to equip students to be able to impact their peers with godly living.

What are the Key Pillars of P2P

  1. Leadership development

Objective: to aims at equipping/empowering students to influence the school, church and society

  1. Discipleship & Evangelism

Objective: Aims at nurturing students to follow Christ and disciple others.

  1. Christian Peer counselling

 Objective: To prepare students to be able to carry out counselling among their peers.

  • Bible study

Objective: To edify students to grow and stand firm in their Christian faith and equip them to train others to carry out Bible study

Why these paradigms shift?                                        

Effective ministry among students can no longer be realized through one time ministers. There is also lack of commitment among Christian teachers to the Christian Unions due to overwhelming responsibilities both in the school and their local churches. Students lack consistent shepherds who can guide them on the path of God’s truth.

The growth in the number of schools and student population requires a new strategy for effective high school ministry.

This shift focuses on equipping student leaders with the basic skills to be able to influence other students within the school community. Peer to Peer strategy seeks to transform students’ lives through the students themselves; something the associates and the adult ministers cannot achieve

How will P2P be implemented?

KSCF reaches effectively 4000 schools in Kenya within 45 counties. The implementation will be in phases.

Phase 1: 2016-2020

Phase one will focus on 30 counties selected based on the KSCF presence and activeness. A maximum of 30 schools will be selected per county totaling to 900 schools. 50 students per school will be identified and trained on the P2P model. The trained students will be used to transform the rest of the students in their respective schools.

Implementers at the school level will be the Christian teachers who are already in our databank. Training will be organized both at the county and sub county levels targeting 2 teachers per selected schools. Teachers will be the role bearers as well as moral carriers. 

The primary focus in 2016/17 was training of the implementers and development of curriculum for year 1 for all the pillars.

In 2018, the year 1 syllabus was rolled out in the 150 schools—this was a pilot program.

In 2019, P2P is rolled out in 1000 schools as year 2 materials are developed; and subsequent materials will be developed and rolled out till 2020.

There will be a continuous monitoring and evaluation of the program.  By the end of phase 1 there will a comprehensive evaluation report which will guide the rolling out of phase 2.

How to get involved

Key facts

–        There are 8,734 secondary schools in Kenya with a total population of 2.3Million students

–        The number of schools grew at 8.2% between 2009 and 2014. Public schools grew at 8.9% annually while private schools grew at 3.9% during the same period.

–        The secondary schools student enrolment rate experiences a 9.4%annual increase.

–        Total number of committed CU members in a school is only 10% of the total school population.

–        It will cost Sh.20,000 to produce and supply the stated literature to a school per year and conduct training to teacher and students.

–        Most schools lack mature Christians who can guide students to Christian maturity

–        Most ministers going to schools lack basic training on high school ministry

–        A number of Christian teachers are less involved with the Christian programs in schools

To be successful, this program requires your support on these areas:

  1. Those who can adopt a school to support in through visitation, prayer and financial support- you can give a donation of Sh. 20,000 per school per annum.
  2. Those who can act as spiritual mentors to a school
  3. Join KSCF local team and participate in the area KSCF activities
  4. Be part of a literature development committee.
